Members of the group – 9 Nations – which brings together indigenous tribes in Guyana, on Tuesday hosted a rehearsal session for the upcoming ‘Indigenous Imaginations’, an event scheduled for August 10 2024 at The Black Magenta on Camp Street, Georgetown.

Speaking with the News Room, Nigel Butler who is the Vice President of 9 Nations and is the current events coordinator of Indigenous Imaginations shared what Indigenous Imaginations is all about and what can be expected at the event.

“The event is a two part event where we hope to have designers, vendors and artists to come out and show their work. Moving on from there is a three hour break and we restart at 6pm for the fashion showcase,” Butler said.

He mentioned that at 18:15hrs, the doors will be closed to the public, so it is advised for persons who wish to attend the event to arrive early.

Vice President of 9 Nations, Nigel Butler

Leroy Hendricks who is the Public Relations Officer of 9 Nations gave a brief background history of the grouping while also focusing on their purpose and intentions.

“The 9 Nations was formed by indigenous and non-indigenous persons with the common goal of promoting our indigenous culture. The biggest event that we have is Indigenous Imaginations and this is the 2nd year that we’re gonna have that.”

Hendricks further stated that “This is something that is important to us, this is something that is important to Guyana as well. One of our main goal is to promote our indigenous culture to a wider audience because some of the stuff out there is not as it should be.”

The event will feature items rich in culture and encourage social interaction and networking as they foster a space for collaboration and development.

The 9 Nations intends to highlight more than the basic knowledge of our indigenous people and their culture. There events will feature persons of different regions from Guyana who will participate in the event come next Saturday.

Tickets are available at The Black Magenta and the APA located on Charlotte Street, Bourda, Georgetown at the cost of just $5000. (Reporting by Brad DeSouza)
